Approximately fourteen hundred years ago, the Ummah Muslima received the Quran. It took almost twenty-three years to uncover all of the knowledge that is included there since it is so extensive and important. This explains why learning the whole Quran by heart takes years, and memorizing it while also learning Tafseer—the meaning of each ayah and surah—takes much longer. It might not be overstated to say that the Qur’an is the book that is read aloud the most but comprehended the least. Millions of Muslims worldwide recite the Holy Quran every day, listen to it, and attempt to learn it well via reading and recitation, but how many of them are actually proficient in it? This is a sad reality of the Muslim world.
